Representatives of the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA), which provides the secretariat for OneNeurology, together with OneNeurology Vice Chair Coriene Catsman-Berrevoets, attended the WHO Forum in Geneva on October 9 and 10, 2024.

On Wednesday, October 9, the group participated in the WHO Mental Health Forum representing OneNeurology. This year’s Forum was especially momentous, marking the first in-person assembly in Geneva in five years—since WHO began conceptualising the framework for ‘brain health.’

On World Mental Health Day, Thursday, October 10, Tadeusz Hawrot (EFNA Senior Policy Advisor) joined a panel representing OneNeurology. Discussions centered on implementing the global action plan on neurology, a key step in integrating neurological priorities into WHO’s broader health strategies.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasised the critical need for action, noting that mental health remains one of the most neglected areas in healthcare.

The WHO Forum also featured the launch of the publication ‘The Lancet Psychiatry  Commission on Mental Health in Ukraine’, which marks an important step toward future specialized care for trauma-impacted regions.

Amidst the meetings and discussions, it’s inspiring to witness the meaningful progress in neurological and mental health policy. Mental health is essential for everyone, and it carries even deeper importance for those affected by neurological conditions and their caregivers. It is highly needed to unite to end stigma and make mental well-being a priority for all.
